133 young people across the UK have taken part in a programme which asked them “Can you shape your city?”
The Scholars Programme, run by charity The Brilliant Club, offered students from less advantaged backgrounds the chance to develop their skills, knowledge and confidence, putting them in a better position to compete for a place at university.
The “Can you shape your city?” programme involved PhD researchers, subject experts in the field, working with the young people in schools over the summer term of 2025. Across 7 tutorials school pupils learned about real-world transport challenges, collected data to explore solutions to issues such as congestion, road safety and sustainable mobility.
Each student completed a 2,500 word assignment before heading off for a trip to a university, to celebrate their project whilst also finding out what life at university is like.
The Brilliant Club programme is just one of the projects Rees Jeffreys Road Fund has grant-funded over the recent decades, as part of our wider ambition to support the future cadre of skilled transport professionals, by encouraging interest in a career in highways and transport.
