Rees Jeffreys Road Fund launches the MSc Bursary scheme for the academic year starting in 2024.
The Trustees of Rees Jeffreys Road Fund are confirming their commitment to supporting study at MSc level for people wishing to study road or transport related subjects.
Studying for an MSc can make a great difference to an individual’s career.
Georgia Turner, who received a bursary in 2021 to study for an MSc in Road Management and Engineering at the University of Birmingham part-time over 2 years, said, “This qualification gives me the pride and certainty to say I am an engineer. In my first year I started gaining confidence thus applied for a senior engineer position within my workplace, in a different area of highways. The move from planned maintenance into project engineering, specialising in designing and implementing SuDS was inspired by the new design and decision-making skills I was taught in my studies.”

Neil Hoose was awarded a bursary in 1984 to study for an MSc in Transport run jointly by Imperial and UCL. He says, “The support of the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund was instrumental in giving me the opportunity to develop the knowledge and skills in transport and research that have underpinned a career of over 35 years in the field of Intelligent Transport Systems.” You can read more about Neil’s experiences on our Bursary case study page here.
The Fund will provide up to eight Bursaries for MSc students starting in the academic year 2024-2025. The Fund is keen to support people thinking of starting a career in the roads and transport sector, as well as supporting people who are already mid-way through their career and wish to progress their professional knowledge and expertise.
Bursaries are available to support study in a range of subjects including engineering, management and planning in relation to roads, highways or transport. Applicants may be studying full time or part time but must demonstrate a commitment to a career in highways or transport. The Bursary is provided in staged payments over the period of study. The Bursaries are aimed at students who would not otherwise have the means to pay for the study fees.
All enquiries about undertaking MSc study and making an application to the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund for a Bursary should be made directly to the thirteen universities listed on the Fund website here. Universities are provided with the full terms and conditions of the Rees Jeffreys Road Fund MSc Bursary scheme, and the application form which must be endorsed by the university making the application on behalf of the student. The deadline for universities to submit applications to Rees Jeffreys Road Fund is 5pm on 28th June 2024.
