England’s Economic Heartland, Cambridgeshire & Peterborough Combined Authority and Greater Cambridge Partnership have carried out a study exploring how to make every day journeys using active travel and public transport safer for women and girls. The project was supported by grant funding from Rees Jeffreys Road Fund.
The project notes, “The findings reinforce an important principle: that designing for those who face barriers to using active travel and public transport often creates better environments for everyone. Recommendations range from improved lighting, CCTV and real-time information to better vegetation management, accessible infrastructure, staff training and clearer reporting mechanisms for incidents. “
